Role Play Name of Group

Introduction

The participants of the FFS will be divided into smaller sub-groups. A group of 25 is usually split in 4 or 5 smaller groups. Each small group will be given a different name. The group members are supposed to work as a team which gets its identity from that name. This exercise will familiarize the participants with the name of their group and is the starting point for team building in the group.

Objectives

  1. To involve all the members in the group to think about their group name
  2. To start teambuilding within the groups
  3. To familiarize the participants with the name of their group

Duration

  • 30 minutes

Materials

  • As required by each group

Methodology

  1. Participants are divided in smaller groups.
  2. Ask the small groups to sit together and think about a name. The name should have some relation with the topics that are going to be studied in the FFS. (Examples of group names for an IPM FFS are: “wasps”, “ladybird beetles”, “spiders”, “vegetable growers”, “good seed”, “organic manure”, etc.)
  3. Give the groups ten minutes to decide among themselves how they will present their name to the other groups through role play.
  4. After 10 minutes, get everyone together for presentation of role plays.
  5. Each group will get 3 minutes to present their group name by role play. All group members should participate in this play.

Some guidelines for discussion

  1. Have you become stronger as a group by doing a role play?
  2. Did we get a good idea about all the group names?
  3. What made the role play funny?
  4. Why is it important to have fun?
  5. Whose responsibility is it to make the training successful as well as having fun?
