Longest Line

Introduction

Just putting some individuals together in a group does not mean that they will work effectively together as a group. To make a team successful, each of the individuals has to be prepared to participate by sharing efforts, resources, ideas and talents and by active cooperation. This “Longest Line” exercise will stimulate the sharing and cooperation among the participants. It can be used as a starting point for a session on “working with others”.

Objectives

  1. Develop sharing and cooperation between participants.

Duration

  • 30 minutes

Materials

  • Articles found on the bodies of participants or things they carry with them<./li>
  • Watch for time keeping.
  • Whistle.

Methodology

  1. Divide the participants into 4 or 5 groups of equal size.
  2. Tell each group to make a line out of articles found on the body of the group members. The group with the longest line will win.
  3. Give them 5 minutes to make the line.
  4. After completing the line declare which group made the longest line.
  5. When the game ends, process and analyze the activity.

  1. What happened during this activity?
  2. How did each group make their lines?
